Iqaluit, part 5: Last day

After some breakfast sandwiches at the nearby cafe, L went back to do some work at the hotel while B went back to the Centre. They were a bit short-staffed, so she made herself useful. At one point, they were about to throw out some metal tables, so she found some tools and was able to repair them, proving that she can be the handiest person even in a room full of men in Iqaluit.

L came back for the start of lunch (cheesy chicken flatbreads, with bbq sauce prepared by B under careful instruction from Chef Jaime) and then joined her behind the counter to help serve the meal to all of the friendly and notably gracious patrons. Haali was handing out big pieces of maktaaq in ziplocs, which were accepted enthusiastically, and one woman made L laugh by asking with a wry grin if he'd helped catch the bowhead.

We stayed until the end of the workday, when Joseph asked if we wanted to come fishing with him and his son & daughter (we'll call 'em J1 & J2 for the blog). We couldn't turn down another visit to Sylvia Grinnell park on a beautiful day, with good company and two adorable kids.

The arctic char were hopping out of the water, there were plenty of people angling, and every once in a while we'd hear some excited cheers and look over to see a fish getting reeled in. L swore he couldn't see J2 when she hid inside her sweatshirt, B taught her how to play rock-rock, and we both enjoyed J1's rambling tween jokes. We even got to see another red-throated loon swoop in, dive around for a while, and eventually fly off with a fish. Iqaluit (and especially Joseph and his family) have shown us an incredible time.
