home base

last post for this trip!

after a surprisingly pleasant sleep at the world's worst motel, we continued eastward. our pal haley met us in detroit for lunch at Green Dot Stables, where we had some fantastic sliders (yes, sliders). then we crossed the canadian border without being hassled by the Man at all, got some celebratory tim hortons, and drove over to Long Point Provincial Park.

you have the right to appreciate this photo either (a) aesthetically, or (b) as a metaphor for the end of the trip

being high rollers, we paid an extra $4 for a "premium" campsite and got to sleep right next to the beach. we cooked some Trader Joe's sausages over the fire, Snap went for a quick swim in Lake Erie, and we slept pretty well on the sand (in a tent).

the next couple days were filled up with visiting my family in Hamilton (seems kind of funny referring to them in the third person when they make up probably 90% of the readership of this blog) and attending my cousin's wedding. as usual, we stopped remembering to take photos as soon as we were having fun hanging out with everyone, but it was an excellent event. if you're eager to see some pics, the first 7000 have already been posted to facebook, with the rest scheduled to be released as email attachments over the next few weeks.

we got back to montreal to find this, hung up by our kind housesitter pal:

so great

we're now unpacked, settled, and back to work. (well, beccah's at work, while i'm putting in the real effort of writing a blog post.) overall, we'd have to say that the trip was a success, thanks mostly to the extreme generosity of the friends and relatives who hosted us, fed us, and (especially) shared their time with us. thank you very much, and to whoever finds my missing grey handkerchief, please assume i left it there on purpose as a present.*

that actually looks kind of impressive

* but please do mail it back to me asap.
