Coachella!

We've survived Coachella!

We left San Diego on Saturday morning and swung through Temecula to pick up our friend Kally before heading out over the hills to the Palm Desert. After a quick bumper-lunch of Trader Joe's sushi/burritos, we picked up our guest passes and dove straight into the crowds of bikini-clad Californians. Hello culture shock!

First up we saw Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, which was awesome, and then we peeked in on a very very sweaty Tallest Man on Earth. After taking a bit of a break from the scorching sun under some palm trees and eating a ridiculously delicious custom-made ice cream sandwich, we watched Broken Social Scene play. Beccah may or may not have broken out a few rusty dance moves.

After that we wandered around and listened in on an intriguing band called Glasser whose lead singer seemed to be wrapped up in copious amounts of white veil material.

Mumford & Sons was pretty fun and it was hilarious to watch the crowd of rich LA-ers rock out to old timey folk music. Animal Collective played an extremely unrecognizable set, but it was very exciting and enjoyable anyway. At lease we got to sing along to their best song, which was the only one we recognized: "We Tigers". Oh, and we caught a few songs by Bright Eyes and the New Pornographers somewhere in there too!

We met up with Tim briefly before the Arcade Fire show to thank him profusely for procuring us tickets and then wandered around backstage for a few minutes and generally got in the way. For the Arcade Fire show, we got to hang out in an awesome spot smack in front of the stage and had tons of elbow room to dance around like maniacs while the band rocked our socks off. We felt super privileged. They're the best!

The highlight was definitely when they unleashed a giant wave of 1200 glowing LED-filled balloons from over top the stage, each about a meter in diameter and extremely bouncy. All I remember is looking over at Liam and seeing nothing but a sea of giant white balloons. The pictures really don't do it justice.

After a long and windy ride back to SD through the middle of the night, we are now catching up on much-missed sleep and will be back in action by 1 or 2 pm for what promises to be an epic game of frisbee golf in Balboa Park.
