vienna to budapest

Our two-and-a-half hour bus ride from Vienna to Budapest was running two hours late, so of course the driver stopped at a rest stop for a half-hour break. The highway traffic was so bad that the exasperated driver detoured onto narrow roads that wound past empty fields and through funny crumbling little Hungarian towns as the rain poured and poured.

But we got into Budapest eventually. We dropped our things at the airbnb and went out for some vegan sandwiches, then wandered past the nearby parliament buildings and along the river. We decided to grab a slice of cake from Édesmindegy before heading home, and it was easily some of the best cake I've ever eaten: chocolate, cheesecake, caramel, peanuts... It was perfect.
