prague to vienna

We had some time before our afternoon train to Vienna, so we trammed over to Veletržní palác, the main building of the National Gallery in Prague. Their main exhibit was called The Long Century, and it covered the period from the late 1700s to the early 1900s. This covered everything from realism to impressionism to abstract art, but interestingly, the art was grouped by themes rather than chronologically, resulting in satisfying echoes and counterpoints. Most of their artwork was by Czech artists, but they also had pieces by Manet, Picasso, Cézanne, Pissarro, Rodin, and a very pretty Van Gogh.

We detoured up the hill through Letna Park before making our way back across the river and down to the train station, eventually arriving in Vienna to check into our decadently luxurious hotel — another very generous gift from R&R. The towels were enormous, the beds were comfy, and the minibar was complimentary (although we didn't trust it enough to actually take anything).

We thought we'd have trouble picking dinner given how fancy the neighbourhood was, but we ended up finding a place that was the perfect balance between cozy, casual, and classy, as only Europe seems to know how to achieve.

This morning we got a quick breakfast from a bakery around the corner and got one last good look at ornate Viennese architecture before heading to the airport, where we are currently waiting for our first flight to start boarding.
