NL ferry: seven hours in the colours lounge

The ferry that runs from Sydney NS to Port-Aux-Basques NL was probably the biggest ship either of us had ever been on, and our longest trip at sea, and the farthest either of us had been from the coast. The ship had ten decks, a dog kennel, a movie room, a buffet restaurant, a games room, two bars, and an entire deck just for semi trucks.

The real highlight, though, was the colours lounge (pictured below). Despite the garish decor and inexplicable neon-blue lighting, it provided a surprisingly comfortable spot to spend the seven-hour passage. We got a bench right next to a window, and we also took occasional trips to the extremely cold and blustery observation decks.

We definitely felt the motion of the waves, but the ocean was very calm ("smooth sailing!" says B, chuckling at her own joke) and we arrived at the south-east tip of Newfoundland just in time to grab a fried chicken dinner before checking into our motel.
