port-aux-basques to boyd's cove

Yesterday will forever be remembered as the day we finally saw moose. I've lived in Canada my whole life without seeing one, and we even had an entire road trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula a few years ago whose sole purpose was to see moose - a trip which yielded only failure and heartbreak.

We left our motel in the morning and passed by the strikingly beauitful landscape north of Port-Aux-Basques, with a stretch of rugged scrubland separating the ocean and the Table mountains. Further up the Trans Canada, B, ever alert, spotted two moose at a safe distance from the car and behind the wildlife fence. We did not get a photo, but the scene is etched in our memories.

We drove and drove and drove and found the perfect beachside motel, where we got fish & chips, scrambled on some beach rocks, and got a really good night's sleep.
