Halifax and Gaspésie, part 3: Foggy Fundy

It rained lightly overnight, and we woke up to an extremely foggy park. A number of slugs had decided to crawl up the sides of our tent and on the shoes we left outside, and a bright little red eft was hunting bugs on the road.

We walked to the nearby Wolfe Lake to see the loons that had been calling all night and then drove south again. The trail at Dickson Falls was surprisingly gorgeous and idyllic, especially in the moody fog — a series of footbridges and boardwalks that wind up along a mossy ravine to a short but lovely waterfall. Wolfe Point featured a rocky beach on one side of a narrow estuary, and at Herring Cove the fog lifted enough for us to see either loons or cormorants hunting out in the waters of the Bay of Fundy.

B found a lobster roll and seafood chowder in the town of Alma just outside the park, and they were everything she'd hoped for. (L also got very good fish 'n' chips.) We sipped hot chocolate and used some wifi at a cafe around the corner before driving back, with stops for hot showers and a boardwalk loop at Caribou Plain.

Between rainfalls of steadily increasing intensity, we managed to get a strong fire going, cook some packaged ramen on the camp stove + hot dogs on the fire, and roast some marshmallows. When it got too loud beneath our skillfully and ingeniously rigged-up tarp, we hid in the car for a while and debated whether to go find a motel. We eventually made the right decision to stay, and thanks to our cool new camping gear we remained unsogged through an extremely rainy night.
