The rain had stopped by morning, allowing us to shake off our dripping things and toss them in the car. We ate breakfast in the activity center, where we had the indoor picnic tables all to ourselves.
We hit the road again; B got us coffees and pistachio cake (for L's bday) in some town, from a cafe run by a friendly Persian couple. We stopped for a snacky lunch at a picnic table by a little lake. A pair of bald eagles was swooping and calling, and we eventually spotted their nest across the water with two juveniles in it, which B could see clearly through her super cool binoculars.
A while later, we spotted a huge flock of bald eagles circling a muddy river next to the highway. We pulled off and found a side road leading to a path, then left the path and braved a muddy track under the road to watch them circling and diving towards the surface of the water to grab fish. It was spectacular.
In Halifax, we arrived at the Dalhousie student housing and were checked in by two funny and very sincerely helpful young ladies. We got an elevated Hawaiian pizza for dinner, then walked down to Point Pleasant Park, where dogs are unreasonably allowed to run off leash. As the sun set behind the trees, we finally found B some exciting shore birds: a lone Surf Scoter and packs of Common Eiders diving for little red crabs.
(Our bird life list has already seen 8 new additions on this trip; pray for us)
