charmin' charleston

we drove through the carolinas on our way down towards charleston, passing kudzu-covered trees, thunderstorms, and a peach stand we had to stop at.

kudzu madness
not pictured or (regrettably) purchased: peach ice cream

the sky had cleared by the time we reached the outskirts of charleston. it's a beautiful little town on the water, with a french quarter that we both thought was even nicer to look at than the one in new orleans.

view from the bridge into town. check out the enormous container ships in the background!
waterfront park
kids playing in a fountain. there was lots of screaming going on, but the good kind.

i don't have a lot of pictures of the french quarter, but here's a cool theatre.

on the way down, we'd stopped at a bbq place on some back road north of town - Snap had seen it recommended on a food show called Mind of a Chef - but we were disappointed to find it closed. we did get a lucky break with dinner, though: we stopped on a street corner to check our phones and see if we could find something nearby, and it turned out that the fancy, "James Beard-nominated" restaurant right across the street from us has a $5 burger night every monday.

yeah, food photos. this is Snap's kim chi burger with egg.
there was a cool three-story, glassed-in wine room on one wall.
