adios, austin

After wading through that cypress swamp near Lafayette, Louisiana, we got back on the road heading west. We arrived here in Austin, Texas on Friday and have been the guests of Beccah's cousins and their rambunctious and adorable kids for the weekend.

We finally saw the new Harry Potter movie yesterday morning and then spent the next few hours trying to shake the vague feeling of dread and hopelessness it had engendered. For lunch we went to a famous BBQ place called County Line on the Hill. It was delicious, but we think we'll stick to light salads for at least the next three years. For the rest of the day we wandered around town, spending most of our time in a long stretch of greenspace called Zilker Park. It made us want to move here - especially the big outdoor swimming pool that was actually just a maintained section of a crystal-clear, spring-fed river.

No photos for the blog today, unfortunately. We're leaving this morning in the general direction of Phoenix. It's going to be a long drive through the desert. I'm going to try to catch an armadillo.

  2. Hi Christopher and Beccah!
I'm having fun, travelling with you.
Are you taking that adorable baby alligator with you, on the remainder of your trip? I would think that that cute little salamander, would be a better pet, don't you agree, Beccah?
    Love your new hairstyle, Christopher!!!
Heaps of love and hugs,to you both.
    Nammie. xoxoxoxo
