On Monday morning, we left the big city for the rolling Virginia countryside. We're staying with Tom and Mary-Alice, my uncle's parents, who are treating us like royalty and initiating us into delicious Southern cooking.
Yesterday we saw: A working dairy farm, an old hunting house that's being fixed up, a couple of black settlements, and plenty of cool old houses and beautiful countryside.
Today we had a fantastic breakfast that included Ponhoss (a first for both of us), and then visited a Mennonite buggy shop and then went over the foggy Blue Ridge Mountains to see Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home. We even had lunch in Michie's Tavern, where Chris Liam promptly fell in love with Carolina BBQ. And biscuits.

You have planned this trip BRILLIANTLY! We do enjoy life by 'contrast' and you've certainly experienced that. From the bustling U.S. Capital to the beautiful Shenandoah valley! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etC59HVD-tg
